Really?
Why does everyone say that?
Let’s translate it.
“I survived another week.”
“Only two more days until I have to go back.”
“For the next 48 hours, nobody can email me asking if I have time for ‘just a quick question.'”
Think about it.
If Friday is the happiest day of your week…what does that say about Monday through Thursday?
Some legal professionals worked 90 hours this week.
Some billed 2,100 hours last year.
Some haven’t eaten lunch sitting down since the Obama administration.
Some have mastered the art of answering emails while brushing their teeth.
And yet…
Every Friday the entire office erupts like it’s New Year’s Eve because they get a glorious two-day vacation before returning to…
The exact same desk.
The exact same inbox.
The exact same meetings.
The exact same “Hey…quick call.”
Then Monday morning arrives, everyone sighs, grabs their coffee, and starts the countdown to…Friday.
That’s not a career.
That’s Groundhog Day with billable hours.
Now, before someone tells me, “That’s just how law firms are,” let me respectfully disagree.
I’ve worked with firms where people genuinely enjoy Mondays.
Why?
Because they’re challenged.
They’re respected.
Their managers actually manage.
They have a path forward.
They’re growing instead of just surviving.
Those firms exist.
More importantly, they’re hiring.
So, the next time you hear someone shout, “Thank God it’s Friday!”, ask yourself one question:
Are you celebrating your life…or just escaping it for 48 hours?
If it’s the latter, maybe it’s time to stop counting the days until Friday…and start looking forward to Monday.
Now that would be something worth celebrating.
