Sherry Zimmerman, a paralegal with the Sheriff’s Office in Yuma, Arizona is reaching out to the legal community. Married 36 years to Wayne Zimmerman, a retired sergeant from the Arizona Department of Public Service, they await anxiously at the Mayo Clinic for a heart transplant for her husband.
According to the YumaSun.com, there’s a Wayne Zimmerman Benefit Raffle under way, sponsored by the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office League of Volunteer Employees, a nonprofit organization.
Gretchen Thomas, administrative assistant to Sheriff Ralph Ogden, said, "Tickets are $10 each or four for $35 for an opportunity to win the first prize: a $600 gift certificate from Sprague’s Sports. That will be from the first ticket drawn at 5 p.m. Sept. 2, at the sheriff’s office, 160 S. 3rd Ave.," Thomas said.
"The second ticket will be a gift bag, valued at $300, and the third prize is a $200 gift bag. The winner does not need to be present to win," she said.
The gift bags contain numerous items, gift certificates for different things from Yuma businesses. Among items are lube-oil change and 15-point inspection; two rounds of 18 holes with golf cart; restaurant dinners; spa services; automotive gifts; and floral items. There’s even a $60 gas card in one of the gift bags.
Checks are to be made payable to SOLVE and brought to or mailed to the sheriff’s office.
The Yuma Jaycees Foundation has already contributed $5,000 to the SOLVE account for Zimmerman, Thomas said. Wayne has been under doctor’s care at the clinic and is reported to be doing well. The doctors say that when he gets a heart, he would have to remain there for two and a half weeks, then return to Yuma to recuperate for two months.
