Now this is good news! St. Petersburg College in Florida recently made paralegal studies its ninth bachelor’s degree.
A feasibility study for the extended degree surveyed 100 employers before the program was launched. Not only did the firms & companies report needing more paralegals with improved critical thinking skills, over 75% said they would help students earn the newly expanded degree.
The four-year program will prepare students to "’go right out and be a paralegal,’" according to Susan Demers, director of the college’s legal assisting program. "’The legal community really encouraged us."
Current students are interested too. Ana Barros told the newspaper she planned to return for classes in the new concentrated areas of study, such as intellectual property.
