"Whether it’s a right-hand man or woman, having a trusty assistant is vital in many jobs.
"In the legal profession, paralegals must be vital, considering the number of firms that employ one for every couple of attorneys. And things only are looking up for these legal professionals, as the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment will grow faster than average because of employers’ attempts to reduce costs by hiring paralegals to perform tasks formerly carried out by lawyers.
"’It’s interesting, especially in Memphis [scroll down],’ said Andy Branham, manager of the Memphis office of Counsel on Call, a legal job placement firm. ‘Counsel on Call is dedicated to placing contract attorneys for specific jobs, but in Memphis, our clients want to use us for paralegal work as well.’
"’What I started realizing was Memphis lawyers were seeing benefits of using legal professionals without a (law) degree to do the task that young associates were doing a while back, some of the things that don’t require a license.’"
